2011 Weekly Report wk 48 Saturday 3rd December
Mike cleared the pond of the debris caused by the leaves falling from the trees.
The pond now looks more like a swamp with a few puddles.
While the other pond seems to be gradualling filling up.
James picking up the rocks to be placed in the new "Wright" rockery, misunderstanding the phrase "lift with your knees".
Mark and Alan proudly launch their make-shift boat into the pond.
James being volunteered as their guinea pig, testing out the stability, needless to say he jumped out quickly as the water started pouring in.
Mark however, bravely volunteered himself to take on the task of paddling across the lake using his spade as an oar.
The oar became a pushing tool as well, and the water started flooding the "boat" making it much harder to balance, he managed to get the duck house to move closer to the centre, before jumping out of the "boat" for fear of drowning.
The duck house stubbornly moved itself back out to the edge of the pond as everyone warmed themselves up with a coffee.
Cheryl sweeping the paths, keeping them clear.
Mark and Alan coming up with a new plan (Plan 2) of the day.
They decided to turn the "boat" over and use it as a platform for the duck house to sit on, hopefully making it more stable in the centre of the lake.
Trouble being they couldn't reach the middle, as Mark precariously uses his spade (very technical) to try to move the "boat".
Alan pulled whilst Mark pushed, getting closer and closer to the edge.
Freya continued to build the "Wright" rockery (moving the rocks slightly to the right).
James attempted to bring the rocks to Freya, forgetting about the rather steep bank.
He eventually made it, dropping the rocks by the rockery, so that Freya could position and bed them in correctly.
While they continued on the rockery, Mark and Alan found that the "boat" had grounded in the pond and had to pull the "boat"out, Mark fell over, Alan laughed.
But eventually they got it out, and you can see why they had trouble... The amount of water made the job 10x harder.
When they got it out, they both looked pleased at what they had done with the day (practical experimentation, that unfortunately didn't lead to anything overly productive).
James continued work, taking the pipes over to Freya as habitats for wildlife and possibly planters for flowers.
While this all went on, Cheryl continued to clear the paths.
