Bird Hide – Opening Ceremony

This morning saw the official opening of our new Bird Hide.

The hide was constructed with the help of a grant from Staffordshire County Council and a lot of man hours and hard work from our volunteers. We were lucky to have such volunteers to see the project through and approximately 22 of them turned up today (not just for coffee and cake) but to see the official opening.

We asked County Councillor Paul Northcott who had helped us with our grant application to do the official opening and the red ribbon was out and ready:

Andy Swetman and Dave Coulson from Loggerheads Parish Council were also in attendance

After a few group photos the coffee and cake (thanks to Shelagh) were enjoyed by all.

And I almost forgot, the dogs name is Scooby!!

Bird Hide Update

Our Bird Hide was almost complete but we needed a ramp to finish it off which was suitable for visitors with disabilities giving them easy access to the hide.

After a few initial enquiries we were supplied with the ideal ramp from Andy at Matthews and Sons, Stoke on Trent so a huge thank you to them.

Thanks to Andy our new Bird Hide was ready for the opening ceremony.

Bird Hide

We had our first visitors to the Bird Hide yesterday (although its not officially open yet) but they left us a lovely message which makes all the hard work worth while, so a big thank you.

Visit from the 1st Loggerhead Guides

We had a visit from the 1st Loggerheads Guides on Monday evening who wanted to see what we get up to at the reserve.

They were really interested in what we do and enjoyed the pond dipping with Dave, viewing the reserve from our new Bird Hide and generally exploring the other areas. They were a lovely group and are most welcome to come back another time to see what we can find.

They did see the Moorhen with her baby but the others chicks were playing hide and seek with us.

The Guides also enjoy Pond Dipping finding out what lives in our small pond and at the end of the night left us a lovely thank you message.

Work Party Update

We had a good turn out for the work party on Saturday 2nd June (it must have been the promise of a biscuit with a cuppa). The paths were in need of a tidy up so a few of us got started and cleared away all the overgrown edges.

Some of the broom had over spilled onto the paths and had to be tied back or given a quick trim and a group got started on this project.
Its never ending when you get the rain, humidity and sun as everything grows at such a rapid rate but the reserve does look beautiful.

Can you see the Tree Creeper in the tree?

I can’t see it either, it is almost like Where’s Wally but it is there somewhere!
