Just to remind everyone there will be a work party this Saturday 2nd June from 10.00 – 12.00 noon, everyone welcome. Tea and coffee served at 11.00 am which always goes down well after an hours work in the fresh air.
The forecast is showing warm weather with showers so fingers crossed the showers might just go away.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
We had a very successful survey and spotted the following Birds:
Tree Creeper, Blue Tits nesting in box 11, Male and Female Blackbirds, Greylag Geese sitting on Duck island on two eggs, Moorhen with 4 chicks, Mallard pair, Wood Pigeon, Great Tit, Swallows and a Coal Tit.
We also had the honour of a Red Kite flying overhead, such a beautiful bird.
In the Large Pond:
We spotted Water Boatman, Caddis fly larva, Great diving beetle larva, Molluscs, Water Shrimp and Red Worm.
Spotted in the Small Pond were Stickleback (male with red belly), Tadpoles, two types of Pondskaters and Water snails.
There is an abundance of Plants flowering at the moment such as: Herb Robert, Dandelion, Violets, Broom, Gorse, Forget me not, Cow parley, Welsh poppy, Ransoms (wild garlic) and Ajuga.
It’s amazing for a small reserve to have all of the above living and growing in this peaceful location.
There will be a work party on Saturday 19th May from 10.00 – 12.00 noon.
Tea and coffee served at 11.00 am.
All our welcome so come along and see what we get up to.
It was a productive day on Saturday and with plenty of volunteers to hand got lots of jobs done. The sun for once was shining a bit too bright for working in but no complaints.
A gentleman who often pops into the reserve stopped us to say that he had seen three Tree Creepers in the reserve all on the same tree which is a rare occurrence. Tree Creepers are a small active bird that climb up trees almost like a mouse usually from the bottom up. Apparently he has never seen this in 40 years of bird watching.
You never know what you spot at the reserve so keep your eyes open!
There will be a Work Party this Saturday 5th May from 10.00 – 12.00 noon with refreshments served at 11.00 am.
The weather forecast is looking good, partial sun and 19 degrees so don’t forget your sunscreen and hats. Also don’t forget how the weather can change so check again prior to coming.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and as always there will be lots to do.
